For some of you, the first trimester was a little rough with all the morning sickness and hopefully as you enter the second trimester, it will get a lot better! Continue the healthy habits you already have started on your first trimester.
If you’re a working mom like me, make sure you get enough rest in between especially if you’re working a long shift. If you have to stand for long periods, make sure you shift your weight from foot to foot often. If you have to sit for long periods, keep your legs level with your hips. Maintain good posture even when sitting to prevent low back pain. If you’re already having a hard time working on longer periods, ask your healthcare provider if she/he can make a letter that you can submit to your employer and make sure you notify your employer ahead of time as well.
For some, second trimester is the best time to travel. However, if you want to travel during your second trimester, always talk to your doctor first. It is better to be safe than sorry. Drink plenty of fluids. Take breaks often during a long flight or car ride. You have to move around and stretch your legs. Make sure you are up-to-date on all your vaccines prior to travelling.
If you are just at home, still find some time for yourself and relax. Get yourself some quality “me” time. Do some relaxation exercises like yoga or even just walking or strolling around your neighborhood if that makes you feel relaxed. Take naps if you can. This is tricky if you have young kids at home, you can ask your significant other to help you take care of the tasks while you rest. After 16 weeks, avoid lying on your back. Start sleeping on your side.
Being intimate with your partner during second trimester is okay unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Try different positions and see what’s best. Let your doctor know if you happen to have heavy vaginal bleeding. For some women, they are shy talking to their significant other about any changes in their sexual desire during pregnancy. You should not. Discussing this with your partner is better rather than having your partner guess what you really want.
Make sure you keep you house safe. Avoid second hand smoke. If your partner smokes, ask them to do it outside the house. Do not fall. Avoid contact with chemicals used for cleaning.
