Two and a half years ago, my son was diagnosed with ASD. I could still remember the day when the doctor told us and it was such a heartbreaking moment. We were feeling uncertainties and worried about our son’s future.
For the past two years I saw him grow and each day I am just so thankful that from day one we embraced the situation. We started intervention early and I think that is the key. Early detection and early intervention are two vital things.
Yesterday was his last day and his graduation. He is officially done with ABA Therapy! Yep! He did it! His supervisor told us that he’s improved a lot and just meeting the goals. We are beyond grateful but also it was kind of a bittersweet moment. My son has formed a bond with the other kids there and with his therapists.
So now, we have to find something for him to do. He still has the speech therapy going and right now we’re doing telehealth. We enrolled him for the next school year and we are all looking forward to that. A part of me is still worried because I know how the real world can be cruel for kids with ASD. But I am being positive. There are still a lot of good people in the world.
That a sweet moment for my nephew!!
