Three weeks ago I hurt my wrist while opening my water bottle. I had a sharp pain on my right wrist for a minute and it went away. I went back to work thinking it’s probably just a minor strain.

But two days later, it was not swollen but it still bothers me and I usually feel it at the end of the day. I was at work and I know something wasn’t right so I scheduled an appointment the following day. The doctor did this test called Finkelstein and basically she asked me to bend my thumb across the palm of my hand and bend my fingers down over my thumb and I felt pain. The diagnosis: De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis is painful and it affects the tendons on the thumb side of your wrist. So when you make a fist, grasp something or turn your wrist you’ll feel pain.

The doctor then told me that I need to wear a thumb spica brace (which they provided during my clinic visit) basically to rest my thumb and wrist two to three weeks. I took ibuprofen for discomfort which helped. I am right handed and injuring my dominant hand sucks. It was just frustrating sometimes because I couldn’t do what I was planning to do. I bought a silhouette cameo machine and I was only able to try it out 3 days before I went back to work. I religiously wore the brace day and night and only took it off when I have to shower. I went back to work after three weeks. 😊

Staying healthy and staying out of injury – that’s the ultimate goal forevah! 😀
